  The nice things about nuclear weapons is that they are too powerful to use. Throughout the chain of commands in any country no chain of people is nuts enough to believe that anyone would ever attack first. Even the 'close calls' we've had thus far, someone, somewhere in Soviet Russia, the US, Pakistan, India, France, UK, ... has always had the wherewithal to think through the malfunction.

  On the other hand, having them has stopped World War 2, kept the Cold War cold, stopped World War 3 from happening. Things are very, very peaceful compared with just 100 years ago.

  The scarcity due to COVID-19 was largely man-made, but nobody has died because they couldn't get food, that's a thing relegated to the past even in a massive pandemic, just 50 years ago, people would be STARVING if we did such an exercise, nobody starved because COVID-19. Sure it's sad that some people die, but many more people will have died from preventable diseases than from COVID-19.

  Pence was just on TV, he's been touring on the re-election campaign "Faith in America".

  Obviously the MSM isn't going to report on this, Pence makes too much sense, he's very rational, very well and soft spoken, he makes indisputable arguments and puts reporters in their place, and this goes against the narrative that the Trump administration is a bunch of lunatics.

  @Simonsez: Perhaps you should read a bit further than whatever the CNN/wokecrowd shovels forward:

  Not all cultures will perceive two-spirits the same way, or welcome a pan-Indian term to replace the terms already in use by their cultures. Additionally, not all contemporary Indigenous communities are supportive of their gender-variant and non-heterosexual people now.

  What's more, the same page on Wikipedia has a list of words natives actually use to identify homosexuals which is generally "male who acts as a woman" or some other term that clearly sets forward a dysfunction from the gender binary.

  As for the blog post you linked to, the closest the writer could get is that homosexuality was sometimes written about, generally denigrated, in Roman culture and that sometimes women could have the same rights as sons if no and then only until a male heir was produced. That is NOT the same as gender dysphoria, the Bible has the same provision in some cases where no male heirs are present, that does not mean those people take on a different gender.

  I do understand homosexuality has always existed and people with severe mental illness have as well, but that does not mean it was ever normalized.

  I think the Dems have largely forgiven other Dems for outright pedophilia (eg. multiple witnesses placing Bill Clinton during Epstein's parties is never talked about).

  Biden will forget to pick a running mate and the DNC just can't support any of the candidates because they're equally controversial and unliked.

  Biden needs a strong women, but Democrats won't warrant the first female vice-president or president to be a Republican.

  If Biden wants to GUARANTEE a win: Nikki Haley. But if he keeps putting out outright racist and misogynist messages, he will probably lose.

  one thing we were always taught in the past is how we should sit down and pray (kneel) to jehoober whenever we were at an event where they played the national anthem.

  we had to actively disrespect the flag and anthem and be no part of the world, because we were our own country with jesus as king.. given kneeling/sitting for the national anthem is now the favorite pastime of the far-left and if you do so, you get associated with democrats, how do jehovah's witnesses now 'become no part of this world' when they have to disrespect the flag?.

  @FedUpJW: Haha, that is funny. But even that would get you associated with BLM/Antifa nowadays. My question was more, as both action, inaction and reaction get you associated with a particular political group (if you participate you're a right-winger, if you don't, you're a left-winger, if you react you're a communist, what's a JW to do. We need more noo light on this issue!

  BOE Update! (as of 2020-07-31)

  body of elder letters, announcements, and so forth will be next to "none" unless more elders decide to contact us and help out.. atlantis has lost three elders in the past two years.

  two elders were disfellowshipped, and one disassociated and walk away a month ago.. when this happens receiving confidential documents is severed.

  the last announcement we received was 2020-07-23. i was not about to send out a childish letter on "mold" in the kingdom halls.. there are people out there out of work and concerned about what they will eat tomorrow, and the watchtower is concerned with mold!.

  @Atlantis: Good job all this time, on one hand, I'm sad the fun is over, on the other hand, I'm glad there are fewer and fewer elders around. Having elders DF'ed, DA'ed or walking away is a GOOD thing in the end.

  i have a niece who is trying to get pregnant.

  she was telling me her husband had to go to a room with porn in it and masturbate into a cup to get tested.

  i never thought of this before but but how would a jw handle this.

  IVF in general is looked poorly upon, because it involves basically aborting multiple (typically around 5-12) viable sometimes fertilized eggs.

  According to JW life begins at "conception, when the ovum, or egg cell, of the woman is fertilized by a sperm cell of the man" (G 7/2009)".

  Although they leave it up to the conscience what to do with fertilized eggs: https://www.jw.org/en/library/magazines/w20121215/view-of-in-vitro-fertilization/ which is (as usual) wholly inconsistent with their stance on abortion.

  As far as the masturbation, if you masturbate, you become gay (Watchtower May 15 1970 p. 315; Watchtower 1976 Feb 15 pp. 122–123) which then would obviate the need for children.

  there is a surge going on of people buying guns, especially first time buyers.

  with talk of police defunding and rioting in the neighborhoods, some people want to protect themselves.. do you support owning and using a gun if needed?.

  When people compare the UK to the US with absolute numbers, they forget that the UK is just one state (although soon to be liberated) in the EU.

  So you really have to compare something equally sized and populated such as Minnesota (D) or Utah (R) or London to Chicago or LA, not NYC or compare the entire EU to the US.

  Same goes with COVID and other comparisons. Then there's also the classification problems, the US still counts suicide as murder and suicide is included in gun deaths, in Europe suicide and consensual murder is largely legal and not counted. Hell, both the Netherlands and the UK won't count a murder if there is no-one reporting the murder to the police, they'll pick up the body and wait to count until there is someone willing to stake a legal claim.

  When looking at true comparisons, Europe is about as safe as Detroit when it comes to violent crime, and no sane American wants to live in Detroit.
